  1. Depth, not a long list. Two or three activities over several years mean more than ten short ones.
  2. Growing responsibility. Leading, organizing, teaching, or starting something.
  3. Real impact. What changed because your child was there.

Clubs to look for at school

Volunteering ideas

  • Special Olympics(official website)Coach or support athletes with intellectual disabilities.
  • Senior center or rehab centerHelp residents with activities and get to know therapy staff.
  • Adaptive sports programsHelp children and adults with disabilities play sports.

Both are graduate degrees after college. Many programs ask applicants to observe a therapist first, so early volunteering helps your child see the work up close.

These count too

  • A paid part-time job
  • Caring for siblings or translating for parents
  • Steady service at your temple, gurdwara, mosque, or community group
